A Tapestry of Daisies
Winter is almost over but March is still raining hard and making our hills green here in California. Spring is still not here yet; however, the dogwood and crepe myrtle trees have decided it's already time to spread their flowers and it's a beautiful sight. I love it when nature's flora pops out their colors even though winter is not done with us yet. Nature is faithful, producing new life as soon as it possibly can, on the first warm day that arrives in between late winter storms. You might say that nature's flora beats to its own drum, and stands ready and waiting to explode its bounty of beauty upon us. We, too, can stand prepared to turn our faces towards Spring and let our hopes and dreams lift our spirits again out of the winter blues. It's all about timing, transitions and transformations which we discussed last month. But since we're in March, let's talk about our march out of cold hibernation into a Spring celebration.
In Interior Design, Springtime is all about the flowers...their punch of color, style, arrangements, freshly transforming the rooms within your home. After the transition of Wintertime's review, contemplation and planning, it's time to ask this question. So, for the love of Spring...what is it that you would really like to see bloom this year for yourself? I'm thinking the top five answers are 1) good health 2) good paying job or income 3) comfort and security, 4) better relationships and more love, and 5) having more time for play, travel, or creating a resort of your own at home. How did I do?
So while fresh gentle floral scented breezes usher in new buds and blossoming flowers, follow the flow and focus on some fresh starts. From the list below, choose some of your favorite flowers in your mind...the ones you absolutely love to have indoors and or outdoors. Once you've located some beauties, arrange them in vases or pots; and better yet, add some new floral artwork in your home in the way of a tapestry, a painted canvas, limited edition framed art, simple poster art, or some beautifully handpainted plates or bowls on stands. All these accessory items will create stunning focal points for your rooms. Design and redefine your life and your interior spaces so they will reflect and support your ideals. A link for flower meanings is shown at the bottom of this post.
Although some meanings overlap, it is amazing to know what these flowers have represented through the years to past cultures. Don't look until you've found your favorites. More fun that way.
Which are your choices?
Amaryllis, Anthurium, Asters, Azaleas, Bird of Paradise, Calla Lily, Camellias, Carnations, Chrysanthemum, Dahlia, Daffodils, Daisies, Gladiolus, Hibiscus, Hydrangea, Iris, Jasmine, Lilac, Orchids, Peonies, Poppies, Roses, Sunflower, Tiger Lily, Tulips, Wisteria.
Now, in case you're wondering, which flowers I chose as my favorites....
I love Camellias, Roses (Coral & Yellow) and all color Tulips.
For a centerpiece in a home, I use Amaryllis often in varying shades for drama and "splendid beauty". With my Camellias, I need to focus on admiration, seek good luck, practice gratitude and nobility of reasoning, with the love and passion of a rose...and lastly...tulips signify perfect love in general with each color adding another facet of meaning.
Hope your spirit and your home blossom this year with new and wonderful additions and improvements.
Pamela

I think Daryl H. has tried to comment a few times but I don't see it on this post.
